Alternative Newspapers

Alternative weeklies saw an explosive growth during the 1990s, attributing the rise of popularity to their comprehensive event listings, probing content, and ads that are treasured by readers. While alternative weeklies are often thought of as “newspapers for the young,” these outlets usually have readership with median ages in the 30’s and 40’s, with high incomes and relatively high education levels. Each publication is unique to its city, reflecting the opinions and views of its inhabitants and keeping the public informed in terms of the local politics, arts, music, film, television and events.
